$ 150,000 grant
2024-25
Fully Equipped, Used Food Truck

This grant will purchase a fully equipped, used food truck to give formerly homeless, culinary training program graduates on-the-job experience in food preparation, customer service, and kitchen management.

Good Samaritan Shelter (GSS) provides case management and culinary skills training to formerly homeless residents of their south county transitional housing project. GSS will purchase a fully equipped, used food truck that will give 20 culinary program graduates annually paid employment and benefits. They will prepare and serve meals to the south county public at lunchtime and at special community and catering events.

Armed with a resume and references from their time working on the food truck, the graduates will be better prepared to secure permanent employment in the food service industry. Thirty-five culinary trainees will also have an opportunity to join the food truck team each year as they pursue their California Food Handler Card.
