For 50 years, the United Boys & Girls Club in Carpinteria has provided a safe, structured, nurturing environment for K-12 youth in a clubhouse located across the street from Carpinteria High School. Their afterschool and Saturday programs include homework assistance, physical fitness, sports, technology programs, arts and crafts and teen programs. In February 2017, a storm severely damaged the 40-year-old roof, flooding the computer center and arts rooms and other parts of the clubhouse. This grant will complete the amount needed to rebuild and replace the worst sections of the roof including the sections over the computer and arts rooms. Having a sound roof will allow the Carpinteria Club to continue providing a safe out-of-school environment in which children can learn, socialize and thrive.
