Project Description: Foodbank is the primary provider of free, nutritious food to low-income households in south Santa Barbara County. Last year, they distributed 2.3 million pounds of food in cooperation with its 125 partners, including 907,000 pounds of fresh produce. Foodbank uses diesel, refrigerated trucks to pick-up, distribute and safely store temperature-sensitive food. Their existing fleet of trucks is aging and must be replaced over the next few years to meet new state emissions standards. This grant will pay 80% of the cost of a new Hino refrigerated box truck outfitted with a lift gate, donation tracking software and GPS system. The larger truck will be able to transport increased food donations and also provide additional refrigerated storage, reducing the amount of spoiled food that might otherwise go to landfill.
