The 45-day Emergency Shelter provides safe, confidential refuge for all victims of domestic violence. For their safety, children are often confined to the compound where the playground is old and dilapidated. This grant pays for removal of the old equipment, grading of the playground site, installation of a poured-in-place rubber safety surface and construction of a commercial-grade steel play system with a life expectancy of 25 years. The playground will provide children with a safe, inviting space where they can engage in active, physical play, an important component in their recovery from the trauma caused by experiencing or witnessing family violence.
