Transition House is the only organization in Santa Barbara that provides temporary housing, case management and support services for homeless families with children. Its programs are tailored to help capable and motivated families reach self-sufficiency. The first stage of support begins with a 90-day stay at the 70-bed family emergency shelter, which serves about 84 families each year. Unfortunately, high temperatures and sound levels in the common areas, including the kitchen, frequently result in an uncomfortably hot and noisy environment for the families, staff and volunteers. This grant provides capital funding to purchase and install air conditioning and soundproofing in the shelter. These improvements will make the environment more comfortable and less stressful for those living in the shelter and for all those involved in the program.
