Biography

Alisa Bales Baur joined the Women’s Fund group Helping Hands in 2019. She became a Grantee Liaison this year. Currently retired, she was the Art Director at Santa Barbara Magazine from 2000-2015. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, she worked at the design firm Gottschalk + Ash in New York City and later formed her own practice in Houston, Texas, before moving to Santa Barbara with her husband Bob and two young children in 1993. Alisa and Bob have been making contributions to non-profits through their family foundation since 2008, primarily in the fields of education, the underserved, and the arts.

Biography

Cathleen has been a member of the Women’s Fund since 2015 and joined the Research Committee in 2016. She is a pharmacist and spent her career in a clinic setting until she went to work for Direct Relief International where she worked for 20 years until retirement 2013. She is also a  volunteer consulting pharmacist for the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics for the past 12 years. She loved working with Direct Relief's partners around the world and was fortunate to visit many of them. She is the mother of two, grandmother of four, a tennis player and long time follower of yoga.

Margie Larkin

Biography

Margie is a veteran television journalist who worked as an anchorperson, reporter, and producer for twenty-five years. She spent most of her career in Boston, anchoring the evening news and hosting an interview program called "NewsNight" that focused on the most pressing issues of the day. Previously Margie anchored in Detroit and Austin. After leaving television she served a fellowship at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and produced a documentary about the changing political nature of cable news regarding objectivity. In 2004 Margie transitioned to working with non-profit organizations as a Communications and Marketing Director. She has worked with the Center for Creative Education and Schoolyard Films in Florida and most recently worked on special projects for the Santa Barbara Foundation. Margie was the project lead for rebuilding the Women's Fund website in 2021. She and her husband live in Santa Barbara with their red labradoodle, Finley.

Biography

Sabina joined both the Women's Fund and the Research Committee in 2014. She was the founding director of the Health and Wellness Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In this capacity she was an academic lecturer and department head from 1977–2012. She has also taught Resiliency Education and Social Emotional Skill Development at Antioch University from 2000 until 2019. Since retirement, she has been active as a board member for the Mental Wellness Center and Sanctuary Center, both of Santa Barbara and teaches Mental Health First Aid.

Yonie Harris

Biography

Yonie Harris joined the Women's Fund in 2016 and was a group captain last year.  In 2013 she retired from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she was the dean of students. Yonie has a doctorate in anthropology from UCSB and did fieldwork in the South Pacific. She is a member of the board of directors of the Isla Vista Youth Projects and the board of managers of Youth and Family Services, having served as chair of both boards.
